Agile Cold Storage Celebrates Grand Opening of First Automated Facility

GAINESVILLE, GA (May 6, 2024) Atlanta, GA-based Agile Cold Storage announces the grand opening of their first automated facility in Gainesville, GA, designed and built by Fisher construction. The expansion of their Athens Hwy location will be able to store 48,000 pallets or more than 100 million pounds of frozen food from local food producers.

Construction of this facility was no small feat and was achieved with the help of many local contractors. Agile moved approximately 150,000 cubic yards of earth (10,000+ truck loads) to shape the site. The company poured more than 11,000 cubic yards of concrete (1,000+ concrete trucks), coming from multiple concrete plants in the area.

Frazier Racking constructed the racking structure that includes 9.6 million pounds of steel from domestic steel mills. The rack system is 125 ft tall and plumbed to within 1/2” over the entire height and length. After the racking was complete, Agile surrounded the building with 1,300 insulated metal panels from Kingspan. Refrigeration systems for the building were provided by ALTA located in Peachtree City, Georgia. Buildings systems are class-leading in terms of thermal performance, reliability and operating efficiency. The automation systems by Swisslog are capable of shipping or receiving up to 250 trucks per day.

“Automation is the future of our industry and we are proud to be paving the way in Georgia,” said Agile’s President and CEO Don Schoenl. “Agile is committed to improving our customers’ supply chains by building modern facilities and providing superior service. When combined with our experienced management teams, dedicated associates and flexible systems, automation helps us provide our customers reliable, efficient, and effective service 24/7.”
